Don't go to Haiti to volunteer? Don't help the kids for two weeks because they will feel abandon; don't take away paying job?
I'm Haitian and since I wasn't born in Haiti, I'm curious who should receive the money to give to the teacher and set up the school? The Government? Who will set up the jobs and hire the people? The government? Who will give affection to the kids that do not have parents; lost their parents or have parents who are so poor and depress that they don't have the energy to live much less love someone else? The Government?
Is it better to leave the people of Haiti alone and send money? Leave them to their despair and depression?
Is it so wrong to give joy for a little while; even in America we understand the need for joy; to take time off and go on vacation. Can you imagine a life of constant work; with little joy; no vacations; no affection?
I've been to Haiti 4X to volunteer and I believe this article cheapen the work I and my fellow volunteers has done to help Haiti; it surprised the hell out of me.
