4/6/10 - Today Nadine and Mr. Marven is taking me on a road trip to Saint Marc
Our biggest or their biggest dilemma was getting a car. I was told renting a car in Haiti before the earthquake was a challenge but not impossible. In the current condition all the rental location - ex Avis is now impossible. Most of the bigger organization still in operation in Haiti has already rented their cars to "Relief" (volunteers) organizations. A visitor can rent a resident's car; however, you be charged any where between $50 per day (if you know the family) or $100 if you don't : ). Here is the catch even if you make arrangements for a car; similar to my case - the car could breakdown and need repair. Or in Mr. Marven case, with his first contact; the resident will take your money, look you in the eyes and tell you "no problem the car will be here for you; do not stress yourself, it is guaranteed". The day you go get the car; no car. You will get an apology and hopefully all of your money back in one shot. The good news is that Mr. Marven was able to get a car from his Pastor for $50 a day. The enclosed pictures are resident daily activities mostly walking everywhere - back and forth to work. Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
